How Often Do You Read to Your Child?

At Giraffe Kids Academy we are working with Collaborative for Children. In College Bound from Birth, neighborhoods are identified by Collaborative for Children, the program offers services within three-to-five selected child care centers as well as within the greater neighborhood community. As part of this program, we have a very extended Family Library in our school. Read more about Family Library here

Quick tips for reading with your child

Choose engaging books about everyday experiences and feelings. Your child will identify with the characters as they dress, eat, visit, nap and play. Pick a comfortable spot to read in – one with plenty of light. Keep reading short. Look for text that is short and simple. Make it a routine. Whether it’s right before breakfast or before bedtime, set aside a special time every day. Give lots of encouragement! Read the words aloud to your child. Point to pictures. Say the word together. Ask questions.
